Information for MAs & IFATCA Reps Air Trafic Situation in Belgium IFATCA Press Release
The International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Associations, IFATCA, is deeply concerned about the developments within Belgocontrol, the Belgian air traffic services provider, and the problems these have caused for the safe and efficient flow of air traffic in the region.

ICAO-MID First Meeting of the Accident and Incident Analysis Working Group (AIA WG1) IFATCA Meeting Report
The AIA WG was established by the RASG-MID/4 meeting, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 30 March-1 April 2015, with a main objective to review, analyze and categorize on annual basis the accidents and incidents at the regional level and provide an agreed and harmonized regional dataset of accidents and incidents. The Group would also, to the extent possible, identify the main root causes and contributing factors of the reviewed accidents and incidents.

ICAO Global ICAO State Letters The only way most controllers can respond to proposed changes is through IFATCA's status with ICAO. All ICAO State Letters (SLEDs) sent to IFATCA are forwarded to our Member Associations through the IWEN and our MAs can respond to the IFATCA CONTACT listed in the 'REGISTER OF STATE LETTERS' in IWEN. You, the MA, can consider the State Letters and forward your view to the IFATCA contact by the date in the 'REPLY TO/BY' date column. These views will be collated by the Executive Board and included in the preparation material for our response to ICAO; allowing us to have a broader cross-section of views from the ATC community as well as providing MAs with this unique opportunity.

Asia Pacific Region (ASP) Understaffed and overworked ATCs told to work longer
Airports Authority of India (AAI) has come out with a controversial solution that will end up reducing the number of days off they get in a month. In an order last week, AAI increased the normal duty time of controllers by 12 hours a month - meaning two extra six-hour shifts that will lead to the loss of two off days. It will hit the Mumbai air traffic control the most, where overworked controllers each have been putting in an extra duty of 18 hours a month already.

Draft EUROCONTROL Specification for Time Based Separation (TBS) for Final Approach - Ongoing
The Time-Based Separation (TBS) concept defines a set of wake separation rules in terms of time rather than distance to improve runway throughput resilience to strong headwind conditions. The controllers need tool support to translate the required time separation / spacing into the equivalent distance separation / spacing for the prevailing headwind conditions to enable visualisation of the required time separation / spacing on the applicable Approach and Tower Controller Working Positions (CWP).

Other Information How much should ATM contingency cost?
Air traffic management is a very safety-conscious business and policy makers have a role to play in establishing investment levels for ATM contingency. Paul Ravenhill asks if they should invest in technical resilience or contingency arrangements, or both.

Solar Impule ready to resume First-Round-the-World Solar Fight from Hawaii
Swiss pioneers Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg are ready to resume their attempt to achieve the first ever Round-The-World Solar Flight with Solar Impulse 2 (Si2) – the first solar airplane capable of flying day and night without using a drop of fuel. After replacing overheated batteries and running maintenance flights, the team is now re-entering “mission mode”, and as of tomorrow, will identify the first favorable window for Bertrand Piccard to fly toward North America, despite the current difficult weather conditions. The goal of this entire endeavor is to demonstrate how modern clean technologies can achieve the impossible.
